Sea Level Index Point measurements and coring – February

The issue of the vulnerability of the world’s deltas to climate change and, implicitly, to the oscillations and evolutionary tendencies of the sea level presents a topical scientific topic, which also involves the situation of the Danube Delta.

In order to address these vast issues, part of the University of Bucharest team was involved in a field campaign in the second part of February, which had as its primary purpose the collection of sedimentary profiles from the stratigraphy of the Sărăturile ridge (North of Sfântu Gheorghe mouth), which is necessary to be able to intercept (through laboratory analysis) the textural and carbonate changes of the samples that may represent indications regarding the sea level fluctuations in the last millennium. These profiles were obtained with the help of a duralumin cylinders and a sledge-hammer. Secondary or auxiliary profiles were also made through the auger.
