UAV survey in Curvature Carpathians – February
In the last three days of February, the UB team made a first field campaign dedicated to UAV surveys in the landslide investigation area of the project (the Curvature Carpathians, Buzău Mts.). The purpose is to obtain as detailed morphometric and morphological data as possible for the selected deep-seated landslides in the area, as no high resolution elevation models exist for the area. High accuracy digital elevation models and orthophotoplans can be easily obtained from drone surveys, which further can be used in interpreting the morphology of a landslide, to determine volume estimates or potential successive movement stages. We used our FAE750H V4 Beetle hexacopter drone and made the first flight over Mlăjet landslide, situated on the left side of Buzău River, downstream Nehoiu town, covering approximately 56 ha. Ten ground control points were marked and measured with the DGSP.
This activity corresponds to WP2 Task 2.1 Remote sensing and in-situ topography.
Additionally, some field observations were made at Balta landslide on Bâsca Rozilei River to evaluate the possibility of rock sampling from the scarp, with the purpose of TCN absolute age dating, and at the base of Păltineni landslide, just upstream Mlăjet, on the bank of Buzău River, to identify potential sampling sites for C14 or OSL dating . A visit to the Siriu dam was also made, to check the accessibility for mapping an active flow-like landslide situated on the left side of the dam. Thanks for the help to the volunteer students Ilie Andrian, Bogdan Niculiță and Alex Donicioară.
