The first extensive field campaign of the project was organized between 11 and 16 September in Fagaras Mountains, with the purpose of extending the absolute ages database in the glacial and periglacial area of the massiff. Rock samples for 10Be absolute age dating were collected from morraines, erratic boulders, rock glaciers and rockwalls, summing almost 50 samples from Vaiuga, Doamnei, Balea, Paltinu, Capra, Arpasu, Podragel, Podragu and Fundu Caprei valleys. This early campaign was set in order both to benefit of the mild autumn and to ensure longer time to P3 (IFIN-HH) to prepare such a large number of samples in the lab. This activity corresponds to WP2, Task 2.2 Geochronology of landforms and dynamics reconstruction and targets an accurate chronology of deglaciation and the reconstruction of periglacial deposits formation and dynamics in the area.
