Drilling campaign – June
In the field campaign that took place in the first two weeks of June 2021, participated seven members of the research team of the ”ClimaLAND” project from the University of Bucharest. The purpose of this campaign was to drill several cores in different study-sites. The following were performed:
- Eight cores in the area of ancient Histria city: 7 of them have a maximum depth of 6 meters and were drilled near the archeological site, using a percussion open gauge (these being described and sampled on the field). Another 12 m deep core was drilled 7 km southeast of the archeological site with an encapsulated sampler;
- Two cores of 8 and 10 meters deep, respectively, were made on the Slava valley. These were taken in PVC tubes of 1 meter long and 5 cm in diameter;
- Six cores on the Calmăţui valley, in Brăila and Buzău counties, of which: two encapsulated with a depth of 8 and 10 meters, respectively and four open with depths between 4 and 7 meters;
- Two open cores of 6 and 8 meters, respectively, in the area of „Noviodunum” archeological site (today’s Isaccea).
The finality of this field campaign is closely related to the stratigraphic interferences of some Neolithic cultures (Gumelnița – in the Călmățui valley area and Hamangia – in the Central Dobrogea area), and also of more recent age (Ancient and Medieval in the area of Isaccea) with the paleoenvironmental evolutions in differents study-sites.
