Sampling campaign in Danube Delta and coast – December 2021

In the last month of 2021 UB team undertook a new twofold sampling campaign in the Danube Delta beach ridge plains and coastal area. The first purpose was to sample new cross-shore profiles and increase their coverage on the beach-dune system, for testing the Sea Level Index Points method developed by our team as a new paleo sea-level determination. 8 sediment profiles were sampled and geo-positioned, and sample will be further processed at UB lab.

The second task was to supplement the number of short-cores taken from lakes, reed associations and beach ridge plains for 137Cs and 210Pb analysis in order to determine recent sedimentation rates in the Danube Delta. The cores were taken with a van-Beeker type sampler and will be processed at P3 lab, IFIN-HH.
